About Erika

Erika began her career as a tattoo artist in 2005, completing her apprenticeship in Montreal, QC. She moved to Ottawa, On, in 2006 to pursue an opportunity to work with accomplished female artist Kathy Wallace, owner of Living Colour Tattoos. While proficient in a wide range of styles, her passion is realism, portraiture, and Japanese. Erika’s background in illustration and design has cultivated an excellent understanding of proportion and colour theory, while years of working with oils and scratchboards has developed an eye for fine detail. Erika derives inspiration from a number of tattoo artists including Bob Tyrell, Tim Hendricks, Vladi from Italy, and Shige from Yellowblaze in Japan. She currently lives with her two kitties, one lizard, and a plethora of arts and crafts tools!

I was recomended Erika by my sister who had been told about her from a person that worked at the Tattoo Parlour that was doing a manicure on my sister . I booked a consultation with her and after the 20 minute consultatio was satisifed with the work that she was going to do and left a picture of my Father that had passed acouple of years perviously for her to do the stencil with and then we made the actual appointment to get the Tattoo done in October of 2008 The total time to get the Tattoo done was about 4.5 hrs but was totally worth the wait and as well as the $ cost . From start to finish Erika was nothing short of a Professional Artist and a Business Person . If I ever wanted to get another Tattoo again in the future I will go with Erika and Erika only . The long and the short of it is you will not find anyone better in this city to get your piece of artwork done on your body . Ian

I highly recommend Erika as a tattoo artist of realistic portraits of beloved animals. My situation is unique and Erika handled it superbly, as expected. My story is that originally, I wasn’t going to get a portrait of my beloved Demeter (a stray cat who came to my bedroom door out of the blue and who has helped me throughout a difficult childhood) as a tattoo because I feared that no one could ever do Her justice. When the time came that I was going to choose a tattoo parlor to get other work done, I researched Living Colour because I was a previous customer for various piercings and saw Erika’s work, to which I was especially impressed by. I reconsidered my earlier decision and booked a consultation appointment with Erika, where we discussed what I would like her to do, the tattoo’s location, the pricing scheme (a specific amount per hour of work, and breaks did not count) and the process, including estimated times and fees.

Now, I only had two images of Demeter, both of which were extremely difficult to work from, but provided a template from the web of the position I wanted at this consultation. I was impatient and couldn’t wait until the tattoo session! She showed me a tracing before starting to do the tattoo and requested a small change (position of a ‘coloured island’ on Demeter) to which she did. She was very thorough and professional with her work, occasionally asking if I wanted to take a break (any pain never bothered me!). Her work is my first tattoo and after seeing it completed, I couldn’t be happier. From what I had heard, Erika was a little nervous about this particular project because of the limited sources, which showed that she truly cared about her work and meeting my expectations. No other tattoo artist can ever immortalize Demeter the way Erika did and for that, I can never be thankful enough. Thank you again, Erika, for helping me heal over the loss of my divine Demeter, with your artistic talents.

I see you are working in Montreal and occasionally in Ottawa as well. When I have some more income and time, I would love for you to do a portrait of Destiny facing Demeter on the other side, :) .
